Barns: An Illinois Story is a 2-time Regional Emmy Winner. It was a privilege to be a part of this project not only as the designer but also the production coordinator and one of the main writers.
This is a documentary about barns, which are old structures, however the filmmaker wanted to infuse some life and energy into this piece, similar to the Planet Earth documentary.
Using a serif for the main title gives it a sense of tradition and the juxtaposition with the sans serif gives it some energy and a modern feel. The larger “b” and “s” are not expected which adds to the energy.
To end on a modern look a narrow, bold, sans serif typeface was used for the credits.
